Endodontic Retreatment Philadelphia
Restore the Health of Your Mouth
Our goal at Associated Endodontists, P.C. in Philadelphia is to SAVE YOUR TOOTH.
In some cases, the retreatment of a tooth that previously had a root canal is necessary for a healthy outcome. Our team of endodontists has years of specialized training and experience. During an initial consultation, one of our endodontists will review your case and determine if endodontic retreatment at our Philadelphia practice is right for you.
Reasons for Endodontic Retreatment
There are several reasons why a tooth may need to be retreated:
- Leakage into the treated tooth may occur, which causes decay and/or infection.
- Re-inflammation of the tooth due to trauma or improper care. It is of the utmost importance to place a permanent restoration on an endodontically treated tooth within a short time period, usually about one month. If not, the tooth is left vulnerable to infection, which will render the entire procedure moot.
- Deep, narrow, curved or calcified roots which were unable to be seen during the initial root canal. Thanks to our advanced technology we are able to truly get to the root of the problem.
Endodontic retreatment begins by re-entering the tooth to obtain access to the root canal filling material. This may include removal of restorative materials and a post/core. At Associated Endodontists, P.C., we will then remove the old filling material in the roots and clean the canals. We have specialized endodontic microscopes which then allow our endodontists to “look” into each canal of the tooth to allow visualization of the root. With optimal magnification technology our endodontists are able to peer deep into the tooth root, ensuring that complete and proper retreatment can be performed. Once cleaned, we will then refill the canals and place a temporary filling which will stay in place until your return visit to your general dentist for a new restoration or a new crown. The goal in our endodontic office is to save your tooth.
